Hair visionary and L’Oreal Professionel’s new style ambassador, Anthony Turner on his love of churchy smells.

'I’m wearing Avignon by Comme des Garcons - it smells churchy, kind of like the incense you smell in some churches. I love that because I like deep, sexy kind of dark and woody smells. In my house I have those huge big candles that smell like old books and churches; I love all of that stuff.

Like all the Comme des Garcons fragrances, Avignon is a unisex scent and I first smelt it on my friend Sandy. She was wearing it and we were staying in the same hotel and I got in the elevator after she'd been in it and I smelt this smell and I came out of the elevator and was like ‘oh my God, what was that smell in the elevator?’ and she said, ‘I think it was me’ and I smelt her and it was. 

It smells differently on everybody. But people tend to say it suits me because I have got quite a bit of a dark side, so people who know me really well think it suits me. I never deviate from this scent, I think it’s important to have a signature smell. It’s part of my identity and is a small part of what makes up the whole. Fragrance is wrapped up in your personality, I like that.'
